Vermont

We are interested in hiring the right veterinarian to come and join a special place; Qi Veterinary Clinic, our holistic practice, in beautiful Burlington, Vermont. Qi Veterinary Clinic is entering its twelfth year, and we’re growing, as we meet the demands of a local populace that is passionate about holistic medicine. We currently have two full-time veterinarians on staff, as well as eight support staff, cross trained between reception and technical duties (We invite you to learn more about our staff at www.qivetclinic.com). Our veterinarians examine on average between seven to eight patients per day, each over a one-hour appointment. We are a full-service veterinary clinic focusing on proactive health maintenance, with consultation-based medicine, discussing the roles of lifestyle, nutrition, acupuncture, natural medicines, physical therapies (chiropractic, massage, exercise, laser therapy), and pharmaceuticals to help our patients live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Any practice espousing the medicinal quality of herbal medicine needs to emphasize the value of natural, whole food diets. We do by selling high quality, organic, raw food diets made by Aunt Jeni’s Homemade, of Maryland, to support our patients’ health.

We emphasize natural medicines to address the root cause of disease, prevent disease patterns from developing unhealthy stability, and, when necessary, treat life-threatening disease. Specifically, we are following the paradigm of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) applied to animals, a school of thought taught by Dr. Steve Marsden. In this model, we use classical Chinese herbal formulas constructed by the masters of Chinese medical history to potently address the problems common in our canine and feline patients.

We are looking for a veterinarian with an interest in Chinese medicine, incorporating both acupuncture and herbal medicine into their treatment plans. We need someone who is already trained in acupuncture, and prefer someone who is IVAS trained, over Chi Institute training. If you come and join our practice, you will be taught CCM, and have the opportunity to take A Time to Heal’s Introduction to Chinese Herbal Medicine for Veterinarians, with Drs. Steve Marsden and Nathan Heilman, to launch you into this exciting, and powerful practice modality. Training in chiropractic is a plus.

We are fully equipped to provide full primary care and determine Western medical diagnoses, when necessary. Specifically, we handle our information digitally, with 10 work stations running Idexx Cornerstone software, full laboratory, including Idexx Catalyst blood chemistry and ProCyte hematology, sevoflurane anesthesia and surgery, dentistry, digital dental radiography (Henry Schein), digital full-body radiography (Omnera by HS), and a high-end Hitachi F-37 ultrasound unit. This practice will challenge you to continue to develop your Western medical and surgical skills, as you work towards mastery in Classical Chinese Medicine.

The bedrock of our practice remains herbal medicine. We believe that the co-evolution of animals and plants over millions of years has led to phytocompounds being extremely potent in regulating circulatory flow and balancing physiological processes in our patients. We have a full herbal pharmacy with over 70 herbal formulas, and 200 single herbs for which to modify these formulas. This represents a great challenge and opportunity for a veterinarian wishing to learn Chinese medicine.

Our sister business, just three miles south of the clinic, is A Time to Heal, a distributor of acupuncture and herbal medicine supplies for veterinarians across the United States. A Time to Heal is also providing education in herbal medicine to veterinarians across the country. A benefit of working at Qi Veterinary Clinic is that these education materials are integrated into practice at Qi, as well as the teachings of leading lecturers in this exciting, and expanding field of veterinary medicine (visit A Time to Heal’s website www.atimetohealherbs.com) for more information.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to practice challenging yet rewarding medicine and be an integral member of a close-knit team of passionate veterinary care providers. We are offering a 4-day, 40-hour work week, with roughly 36 hours of clinical duties. We are open Monday through Friday and refer emergency calls to Burlington’s local emergency clinic on weekends and overnights. However, we do support tenuous cases on Saturdays, rotating doctors through this duty. Other benefits include seven major paid holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving + Friday after, Christmas), two weeks of vacation, and 40 hours of personal/sick time. We make contributions to health care, and retirement savings. And we pay for professional licenses, and continuing education.

And, Qi is in Vermont, one of the most beautiful places to live in North America. Vermont has wonderful outdoor activities, a tourist economy that promotes gourmet farm to table restaurants, art, and culture, good schools, and a thriving sense of community. In general, people move to Vermont to seek work with purpose, and apply their passion and good intention to their efforts.
